Fashion jewelry: Wear it and have a great time

Jewellery and women are inseparable. Every woman, rich or poor, loves to wear jewellery of some kind. The genuine gold and diamond jewellery can be expensive for many women. However, they need not despair. They can always resort to wearing costume jewellery of fashion jewellery as they call it. Some people also refer to it as imitation jewellery. However, this word can sound offensive at times. We shall refer to them as fashion jewellery alone.
Advantages of fashion jewellery:

The best advantage of having fashion jewellery is that they are not as expensive as the genuine gold and diamond jewellery are. These fashion jewellery items do not lag behind in matter of looks, etc. In addition, they resemble the original ones very closely. You need a trained eye to spot the difference between the original jewellery and the fashion jewellery.

The beauty of fashion jewellery is that you have a terrific range of items to choose. You can choose to have necklaces, pendants, earrings, bangles, bracelets, etc. The list could go on forever. The fashion jewellery makers are extremely gifted artisans. They take the same pains to make fashion jewellery as they take for designing the genuine gold jewellery.

These artisans use a variety of materials to design fashion jewellery. They carry out the gold plating work in order to maintain its resemblance to the genuine gold jewellery. In place of the real diamonds, they use semi-precious stones. You get various types of semi-precious stones resembling the diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, etc. It is very difficult for the normal person to distinguish such imitation stones from the genuine ones.

The other advantage of using fashion jewellery is that you can create optical illusions with them. You can make a thick necklace appear slim and vice versa. They have a range of other applications. Fashion cuff links can serve as shirt buttons. Similarly, the lapel pins can look great on certain kinds of shirts.

You can experiment with fashion jewellery. As they are not as expensive as the genuine jewellery is, you can have many fashion jewellery pieces for the price of one genuine gold jewellery item. You can proudly wear this fashion jewellery on different days of the week and have the time of your life.

It is not necessary for the fashion jewellery to resemble the gold ornaments. You can have fashion jewellery designed from wood, seashells, plastic beads, etc. As long as they satisfy the fashion quotient, you can term them as fashion jewellery.

Is less jewellery better than more

By now you must all be aware of the cliche – “less is more”. It applies to many aspects of one’s life, from makeup to food toppings, but the question is… Does it apply to jewellery. It certainly does!

Unless you fancy walking around shopping centers, looking like a Christmas tree, you would completely agree with this answer. If you want to look elegant, you should rather opt for a simple look, otherwise people will think that you just want to show off your wealth, by wearing layers upon layers of gold chains, gold watches on both hands or even diamond rings on all your fingers. All of which are considered to be going overboard in the fashion industry.

Opting for a simple look gives the impression that you are more sociable and down to earth, as well as less egoistic, as opposed to someone that goes “overboard” with their jewellery. Regardless if you are a man or a woman, you should not wear jewellery in the hope that people will notice it, just wear what looks appropriate with the place that you are going to and what clothes you are wearing.

More often than not, people that wear tons of gold chains around their necks, with gold earings everywhere on their head are taken less seriously when they attend interviews for well renowned companies, even if they possess the appropriate qualifications. This is because such people are seeing as being less professional. This again reinstates the idea that less jewellery is better than more.

Another thing to consider when it comes to jewellery, is not to buy jewellery pieces that look unbelievably bulky and then put it on in excess, as if you want to show it off. This will give the idea that you are desperate for attention. Rather use a lot less money and invest in a small piece of jewellery, even if its just a gold earing the size of a bread crumb, it will still be noticeable and will not demand attention as much as the bulky jewellery would.

So rather go for the simple and yet more professional look and you will be surprised about how much money you save and also about how much more people will start taking you seriously. Just remember that wearing one fashionable watch is much better than wearing five, because it makes you seem less egoistic and makes you appear more respectful. Who knows, maybe wearing less jewellery could land you that corporate job you’ve always dreamt about.

History of Costume Jewelry

Costume jewelry, as opposed to fine jewelry, can be really fun to make or wear and you can really showcase your personality in it. In contrary to actual fine gemstones and metals, costume jewelry is often cheaper and easier to replace. But the history of the actual type of jewelry is interesting to know because unlike diamonds and fine gems that were seen on royalty for many years, costume jewelry is something of another sort.

The beginning of costume jewelry started with pieces that were made of cheaper materials, such as pewter or silver. And even before the 20th century, pieces were often made from glass instead. They were often adorned with rhinestones or Lucite, both of which could make a statement, but were not of real value. Today, we use a mixture of cheaper metals, like sterling silver or gold coatings with cubic zirconium or fake gems in them. All of these are to bring the price down, but give the same kind of elegance to an outfit as you could have with other pieces.

As early as the 1920s, women started incorporating some piece of costume jewelry into their outfits. It was more art deco in style, and with the emerging flapper lifestyle, many large rings, bangles, and long necklaces were seen on women in clubs. It was a way of showing they were breaking free and could truly be themselves in the 1930s, with the Depression and World War II, things were a little harder to come by, especially materials.

Things were made in America mainly, so the styles reflected their style. They were flowery and some were even found to have military influence in their style as well. After the war, in the later 1940s to 1960s, things went away from retro and started taking a more tailored look to them. Pins hit the market and in the 1960s, things turned bold and chunky.
Today you see a mix of all of these styles. With many pieces winding up in vintage shops, people will wear many kinds of styles, sometimes all at once.

Costume jewelry can be an extremely fun way of showing off your style, and it is cheaper than buying precious gemstones and things made of expensive metals. What is great about it is that while it may be fairly newer compared to other fashion trends such as clothes or shoes, it is something that many people can remember having in their youth, and still wearing today.
